Dear Family and Friends of Saint Joan of Arc School,
I am so excited about being your new pastor and becoming involved with this wonderful school. Even before I came here, I heard great things about you! Throughout my priesthood, I have been actively engaged with parish and diocesan schools. My first assignment was Saint Rose of Lima in York and there I began to visit the classrooms and celebrate the school liturgies. At Holy Name of Jesus, I taught in the classrooms and enjoyed every minute of it (and at that time there were more than 800 students!). For almost 2 years I was the administrator of Good Shepherd in Camp Hill. Next came campus ministry at Bloomsburg University for six years and, most recently, I was the school chaplain at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School in Coal Township. From these many schools, I learned how great a Catholic education truly is. Now I look forward to many years working with and for you! I am grateful to God for giving me all these opportunities.
What makes a Catholic School like Saint Joan of Arc special is that it provides a fine academic education, cultivates both body and soul, nurtures the spirit, and does it all in a safe, caring environment. The fact that you are making the sacrifice to send your child to a Catholic school is a sign that you want only the best for him or her. And so do we! As we journey together to provide a wonderful education for your student, let us place each child into the care and protection of almighty God and His Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ!. May your child grow in knowledge, grace and love! An education that recognizes the importance of the spiritual will, in the end, make a healthy, happy and holy person!
Thank you for choosing Saint Joan of Arc School. Together we can do great things!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Al Sceski
Welcome back to another wonderful year at SJA! The summer was a wonderful time for all of us to relax and re-energize for a new school year.
This year’s theme again is “MERCY,” since the year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis continues until Advent. This year we will focus on different ways to “Practice Random Acts of Mercy” by studying a different quality each month, i.e. teamwork, excellence, leadership, determination, dependability, flexibility, optimism, imagination, diversity, potential.
We are happy to welcome Father Steven Arena as our new parochial vicar. He wants to be very involved in all aspects of the school, and plans to be very present in our school on a regular basis.
We are very, very excited to welcome two SJA alumnae to SJA as new teachers!!! Amanda Ringenbach graduated from SJA in 2008 and will now be teaching 2B. Annalei Grant graduated from SJA in 2007 and will now be teaching Pre 3 students. Both women always dreamed of coming back to teach at SJA, and now we are helping them to fulfill that dream.
We also have 2 new Spanish teachers: Janey Cota for Pre K-Gr. 1 and Gabby Veith for Gr. 2-5. Both are parents of children in our school. Beatriz Castaneda continues to teach Spanish to the middle school students.
We are vey happy to welcome back all of our teachers! They have been working hard over the summer to provide new and exciting experiences for their upcoming students.
We thank Dr. Hasson and our Maintenance Staff for making the school look so beautiful.
Over the summer our tech team worked very hard to help us to become part of the Diocesan WAN. This will take care of our filtering and support issues. It is very tedious work that requires expertise to accomplish. We are very gratedul to Josh Haffly and Greg Jones who worked day and night to finish this project. We see the light at th eend of the tunnel!
We welcome many new students and families to our school community. We have at least one new students in every grade.
May the Lord bless each of you in a special way as we all continue to share our gifts for the good of our students.
With love and prayers,
Sister Eileen Marie DM
