Accreditation is a different external validation of school quality and student achievement. In order to achieve accreditation, SJA demonstrated that the school met or exceeded rigorous standards of excellent education. The standards address not just the curriculum, but also other key areas of a school, including facilities and safety. In addition to completing a self-assessment against the standards, a visiting team of educators conducted an on-site visit to verify that the information contained in the self-study accurately reflects what happens in the school.
During the most recent accreditation visit, the team shared their observations about the culture in the school as well as the academics. The visiting team could feel SJA’s positive environment, and commented on the sense of community. They were impressed with the high quality of our middle school, noting in particular that SJA’s standard math curriculum is the equivalent of honors math programs in other schools.
Part of the accreditation process is to establish goals for continuous improvement, which are monitored by the faculty, Educational Excellence Committee, and Board of Education.
